Ernesto Canez
A man in glasses and a UofA long sleeve stands in front of a smart board in his classroomBorn and raised right here in the Old Pueblo, Ernesto Canez is a shining example of TUSD pride! A proud product of our schools, Ernesto attended Manzo Elementary and is a graduate of Tucson High. He began his career with TUSD immediately after college, and we are fortunate that he did. For the last 13 years, Ernesto has been a cornerstone of the Lynn Urquides Elementary School community.

While he previously served as a PE teacher at Hollinger and Robison, he currently brings his energy and expertise to the classroom as a fourth-grade teacher. But his impact doesn't stop at the classroom door—Ernesto also leads the way as a coach for the basketball and kickball teams! Ernesto’s passion for sports and mentorship runs deep. In addition to his work at the elementary level, he has spent 15 years coaching high school baseball at various schools across Tucson.

When he isn’t on the field or in the classroom, he is a dedicated University of Arizona fan and loves traveling and exploring the beauty of Arizona with his family. Ernesto's wife is also a TUSD teacher, and his son is a current TUSD student! This deep-rooted connection to our district shows in the heart and soul he puts into his work every single day.
